Week 14 Field Outing
Introduction
Week 14 was the final week that AT319 students
performed data collection missions at PWA for the semester. Once again,
Aeropoint GCPs and ArcCollector were used to collect GCP data. Maps for the
Aeropoint GCPs and ArcCollector GCPs are provided below with the other maps and
insets. One student also used ArcCollector to record a walking path of the GCP
placement. Five GCPs were used for this outing.
The weather was not ideal heading into the week 14
lab. While driving to PWA, many students reported a heavy rain shower. At the
start of the lab, there were some snow flurries as well as graupel. This was
the last snowfall of spring in Indiana. The weather cleared up within 20
minutes of the lab start and flights were completed.
Flight crews only flew one flight each in week 14. Due
to the weather, the class had to operate within a short amount of time. Because
of this, students had to communicate with each other and fly missions at the
same time, much the same as in week 13. People working with the salamander tanks
had concerns about the GCP placement and flight area that we chose in week 12.
To account for this, the flight area was narrowed down to a strip that included
the field plots.
Study Area
The field plots that were burned in week 13 looked the
same in the week 14 data. Most of the PWA study area did not change between
week 13 and week 14. The biggest difference in this dataset was the
construction area. There was no construction in the first two datasets, only
excavation. In week 14, construction started and a building foundation frame
can be seen in one of the insets provided below.

Data stored internally.
A separate flight crew’s mission ended at the time as
our mission. Both Mavics landed around one minute apart.
